Many people have the impression that poker is only one game, but like most games of cards, there are several variations, with players thinking up all kinds of new variations on the game. These games differ, by rules strategy and style, and perhaps one of the most popular games is Texas Holdem – more than likely because it is played the most often online. Poker aficionados believe anyone can win when you play Holdem, and there is not a lot of style to this game. But this one of the biggest things about playing poker, that anyone can play and win.

Texas Hold 'em is often shortened to just simply "Holdem" and it can be play in different ways too. There are No-limit, Pot-limit and Limit games, and this is relevant to betting. Each "Limit" variation also have their own strategy. It is a game of "Community" poker which means that there are five common cards in the centre of the table and each player is dealt two card. They are then required to make the best poker hand possible by using their own cards and the community card. The best hand wins, unless there is only one hand left in play.

Omaha Hold'em is also a community game and it is similar to Texas Hold'em. In this game the players each get four personal cards however and this game is played High only. This means the highest hand wins, there are also limit and pot limit versions of the game and it is rare that no limit is played.

Omaha players get four personal cards and share five community cards. Most often played eight-or-better high-low split, Omaha is also played high only, and also can be played Limit, Pot Limit or (rarely) No Limit.

Crazy Pineapple is another form of Holdem and is actually a hybrid of Holdem and Omaha. Each player is dealt three personal cards and the rules dictate that one of these cards must be discarded which takes place after the flop. In the version of regular (if you can call it regular) Pineapple, the discard takes place before the flop. Both version of the game are played with a High Low split and Pineapple is also sometimes called Watermelon, as you have to spit out the pips. Call it what you like this version of poker is very popular.

Stud Poker has loads of many variations and Seven Card Stud is most popularly played in casinos. Seven Card Stud High-Low is more popular for tournament play and in many homes around the world. It is also called Baseball, Anaconda, Chicago, and many more names. Stud poker is not nearly as popular in casinos as it used to be before community card games were invented, and this was in about the late 1970's if I remember correctly.

Five card stud is said to have too much skill attached to it and this is one of the many reasons that it is hardly ever played in casinos.
